2026 Coast Contemporary Curatorial Research Travelers: Musoke Nalwoga (Curatorial Intensive alum, Kampala 2022), Heather Nickels (Curatorial Forum, 2022), Alper Turan (Curatorial Intensive alum, New Orleans 2019) and Elise Hunchuck
In partnership with Coast Contemporary, ICI invites alumni of our curatorial programs to participate in the annual convening as Curatorial Research Travelers. Coast Contemporary is a nomadic platform for discourse and art that brings together Norwegian and international curators, artists, art critics, and cultural workers for a multi-day program of performances, talks, screenings, and a conference program in Norway. The venues and curatorial focus change for every edition, but always fosters international exchange between colleagues and prospective collaborators by slowing down and making space for new connections. Participating artists and curators range in background and experience level, including independent curators and representatives of small artist-run spaces as well as established institutions.
Coast Contemporary's 10th edition will take place by the Norwegian coast from September 14–20, 2026. This very special tenth edition will include elements from the last nine editions—all of which shared a core focus on solidarity economics and artist-run forms—and will dig deeper into alternative economies and the political economy within the arts, explore possible new horizons and consider how to work together to achieve alternatives. To learn more about and see material from the last nine editions, visit coastcontemporary.no. For questions about the upcoming edition, contact Coast Contemporary at office@coastcontemporary.no.
This collaboration was initiated by The Norwegian Consulate General in New York. Coasts international program is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Østfold county, Office for Contemporary Art Norway and Møre and Romsdal county.
